to another review!
This review will be a bit picture-heavy, but less than my usual (for once) (ノ・_-)☆
This time I’ll be reviewing item/718099 a prize figure (for a change) of one of my favorite characters the Flame Alchemist Roy Mustang brought to us by Furyu. (๑♡⌓♡๑)
Well, what can I say, I’m not as big into FMA anymore than I was before (still love it though), but I just can’t resist him (if there’s something new and at least decent looking that is)…
Judging from the pictures this one was very promising, but just in case I preordered from a shop that’s ok with cancellations (you never know with prize figures after all). But as you can see I happily went through with my order. :3
Well, whatever let’s get started already…

Roy comes in a rather typical pf box without windows, but with ample pictures of the figure. The background, flames and alchemy circle all fit both Roy and the source itself, so I can’t really complain here. For conveniences sake I only included one picture of the sides and top/bottom since they’re the same respectively. The only thing that actually bothers me is the excessive waste of space once you open the box. I don’t really care about having a blister or not as the figure isn’t particularly fragile, but about half the boxes size would’ve been enough imo.

The base as well is a rather simple affair. We get a black disc with another alchemy circle and his name on it. Well, it does it’s job and the big peg holes are reassuring, but I was never a fan of character names on bases, so this feels kinda blah~ to me.

As for the full view…

I love the pose, it’s from one of my favorite fights in the FMA (a very satisfying one) and I think they really nailed it (although he doesn’t look as worn out) View spoiler

Fittingly Roy shows us a fierce expression ready to battle. The face is pretty true to the character and looks good from quite a few angles, which I’m really happy about.

As you can see he doesn’t come without flaws, looking closely at his hair the surface is very grainy, with quite a number of those excess plastic dots and a few seams here and there. I still think it looks good overall though. Seeing how this is a pf I’m more than willing to overlook flaws to a certain extent, especially since it looks ok from a normal distance.
I’m pretty sure some of the white bits are specks of dust too, although I’ve been really paranoid with the brush this time around.

Seams can be found on his clothing as well and the paintjob isn’t exactly clean either, but this is still to a normal degree imo and I don’t see a reason to dwell on it. On the other hand I’m quite happy with the details on his uniform like the folds and decorations.
Apart from the lack of nipples (something a lot of male figures suffer from if I’m not mistaken) his upper body sculpt is really nice. Roy not fully touching his wound could be a flaw, though I wonder if it’s really that far off. What bothers me though, is that the blood is cut off by his clothes.

The lighter and alchemy circle look ok imo, but otherwise I don’t think his hands are really remarkable (not really a fan of the welds and seams between the fingers but whatever).

Now I really, really like the dynamic sculpting of his uniform and shirt. It’s billowing in the heat of battle and the shading adds another very nice (and unexpected) touch to it.

Apart from few small seams and other imperfections his boots look great as well, the sculpting in particular

For comparisons sake I put him next to his scale counterpart item/463457 and I think he doesn’t look to shabby next to it, though quite bit a smaller and ofc less detailed.
At about 17,5cm (excluding the base) and with a supposed character height of 173cm this figure would be a 1/10 scale and sure enough putting him next to the only actual 1/10 I own pretty much proves this (yet Kino is way more petite).

OK, so this is a prize figure and flaws like this are quite normal from my experience (although still not nice to look at). Since I have no idea how to reflect my being more lenient in the rating however I decided to skip it altogether. I do love this figure though and it’s not only because I tend to be a bit more “blind” when it comes to my favorite characters. It’s a really good representation of Roy and that for a bargain imo. As a fan I definitely couldn’t pass this up and I’m happy to have added him to my collection. :3
That's it for this review! Thanks for reading, I hope you liked it! ^^
I did try to make this a bit shorter since I feel that’s more appropriate for a prize figure.
If you don’t mind I’d love some constructive criticism,
but if you don’t feel like posting any your thoughts on the figure are also very welcome. :3
